Warrior Girl for Good

This is Missdela.

She is a Warrior Girl.

Loves honesty, hardwork, and obedience; things she’s learned from her grandma whom she respects. Loves very much and respects.

Missdela lives in a village, a beautiful village in South Africa. She lives with her grandma because her mama and papa work in a city, far away. They visit when Christmas comes. Missdela loves it when they do.

Warrior Girl

But she is happy living with her Makhulu, who always reminds her she was named after a man the whole world respected, Chief Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Do you see the similarity between the two names? It is an African tradition of long standing to name children after the events or people important at the time they were born. Missdela’s parents so loved Mandela they wanted a name that sounded just like his and named their daughter Missdela.

Respect for Self

Respect for Others

Do you know who you were named for? Or were you named after an event? If you don’t know you may want to ask your parents about your name? Missdela did and she was surprised and very happy when she found out who she was named for. Why don’t you find out?

Like her namesake, Missdela believes in standing up for what is right. She is a warrior girl – that she is. She believes in honesty, hard work, obedience. Makhulu never has to remind her to do her homework. She loves reading, listening to stories from Makhulu and anyone else who tells stories. She listens to stories on radio and tv too – children’s stories. And from these, she learns more things. She learns about the world in which we all live; about our beautiful country and its people and their ways of doing things – all different but all important and impressive.

Respect for the Environment

Missdela has learned about the importance of the three Rs

Respect for Self

Respect for Others

Respect for the Environment

Makhulu told her, a long time ago, those are KEY to life. Can you see why?

Because the three include everything there is in life; and respecting all three is very, very important. And, guess what?

It all starts with respect for Self.

“Here’s to RESPECT FOR SELF – SOMETHING WITH WHICH EVERY CHILD SHOULD LIVE!” is one of Missdela very favourite sayings.
