Who is Missdela?

Missdela, a doll that sings an African lullaby and with hair that children can style in many ways, was developed in 1994. Her name derives from President Nelson Mandela who was released from prison about the same time.

This truly South African doll was designed as a role model for children and to represent values which are incorporated in her stories.

Her personality is one of inquisitiveness and curiosity about her world.

As Sindiwe Magona the South African writer of the Missdela story says:

She is wise beyond her years. She is the voice of unbelievable reason. She believes in telling the truth so pure it touches the wings of Angels.

For this reason Missdela is seen as a bridge embracing present day and traditional values.
